Trailer: Detroit
Annapurna Pictures dropped the first trailer of the highly-anticipated film Detroit which depicts the events prior to the infamous 1967 Detroit riot.
The movie is inspired by true events and is based on the novel The Algiers Motel Incident. It describes the brutal and racist actions of Detroit PD members against 12 civilians; ten black males and two white girls. Three black males died and the others were severely beaten.
Consequentially, one of the biggest riots ever recorded in American history came to be. John Boyega plays Melvin Dismukes, a security guard who gets caught up in the riots. Will Poulter plays one of the three police officers that are suspected of actively taken part in the murders of the 3 black civilians mentioned above. The officers were never convicted due to the incoherence of the witnesses’ statements.
In theaters August 4.
