Irish indie-rockers modernlove. are back with energetic new single ‘Follow You’ on Valentines Day through Akira Records.
Having blazed a trail with their debut EP and string of singles last year, Drogheda quartet modernlove. have dropped their first single of 2022 on Valentine's Day: 'Follow You'.
Their recently unveiled single ‘Us’ (a Hot Press Track of the Day) near the end of last year drew plenty of praise, finding support with major music publications after being released through Akira Records.
Continuing more of that bold and blistering pop-rock sound they have earned a reputation for, ‘Follow You’ delivers a knockout punch of frenzied guitar hooks and catchy vocals from start to finish.
Produced and mixed by Tom Leach (Col3trane, Lewis Capaldi, The Streets) and mastered by Kevin Tuffy (Alfie Templeman, Matt Maltese) the new single is an ode to the anthemic indie bangers of the early 2000s that the band were raised on.
Filled with all the same charm and uplifting textures of their recent material - and accompanied by a colourful, bubbly video - the Louth-born Hot for 2019 group are kicking off their 2022 campaign with finesse.
"'Follow You' is a love song about the early stages of infatuation in a relationship," modernlove. say of the new offering. "It’s about finding yourself in a relationship so intimate that spending each waking moment together still isn’t enough, hence the lyrics: 'When you fall asleep I’ll follow you'."
"Musically, we wanted to write a song that resonated with the nostalgia of those same naive infatuations and took us back to when we first started the band as teenagers finding ourselves as people as well as artists," the lads add. "A simple four chord structure that echoed the likes of Bloc Party, The Cure and New Order. A song that we could fully jam on together and jump around to."
Their debut EP monochrome blue, released in September 2021, saw modernlove. combine their earliest work into a statement initial offering. Featuring the singles ‘Liquorice’, ‘2 Missed Calls’ and ‘lmk (if you wanna see me)’, they received strong playlist support, landing on New Music Friday UK, Fresh Finds, Alt-Pop and The Pop List amongst others on Spotify.
The 6-track project confronted issues like romance, rejection, 21st-century communication and the daily impact of all three. modernlove. explore the complexities of the modern lives of twenty-somethings.
Barry, Cian, Danny and Graham of Drogheda have managed to nail their sound, delivering polished, indie-pop with a glossy '90s sheen.
