The Freedom Theatre set to headline Seachtain Saoirse don Phalaistín
Return To Palestine, will be running at the Project Arts Centre from the 28 to 31 of January.
The Freedom Theatre, based in Jenin Refugee Camp, Palestine, is making its Irish debut with the play Return To Palestine. This performance is the headliner for Seachtain Saoirse don Phalaistín (A Week of Freedom for Palestine), a cultural week curated by The Project Arts Centre in Dublin.
Co-founded in 2006 by Juliano Mer Khamis and Zakaria Zubeidi, The Freedom Theatre is a cultural and artistic centre, recognised for its commitment to cultural resistance. Return To Palestine was directed by Micaela Miranda and developed in collaboration with graduate actors from The Freedom Theatre School. The play is supported by The Arts Council of Ireland.
The narrative follows Jad, a Palestinian born in America, on his first journey to Palestine. The performance incorporates true stories from various locations, including the Jenin refugee camp and city, Fasayel, Dheisheh refugee camp, Mufaqara, and Jabalia Camp in Gaza.
The week also includes a discussion on active resistance featuring writer, director, and Pal Art Collective founder Ahmed Masoud alongside playwright, actor, and activist Donal O’Kelly, followed by live music from experimental Irish musician Dunny. The performance is scheduled for January 30 at 7:30 pm.
Seachtain Saoirse don Phalaistín will be concluded by the contemporary music of Ahmed Eid. His 2026 performances will raise donations for the Palestine Music Space in Ramallah, a free space that enables young talents to learn, record, experiment, and create. The performance will take place January 31 at 9:15pm.
Return To Palestine, will be running at the Project Arts Centre from January 28 to 31. Seachtain Saoirse don Phalaistín will also take place at the Project Arts Center from January 26 to 31.
