Swearing His Heart On His Sleeve
He may be the meanest dad on the planet, but we’re loving the acerbic comic stylings of Louie CK.
Being of the opinion that swearing is both big and clever, Caught In The Net has developed a bit of a crush on Louis CK, the potty-mouthed American stand-up who makes Frankie Boyle seem like Bruce Forsyth in comparison.
A former Letterman, Leno and Chris Rock writer, the acid-tongued Washington DC resident’s shtick includes making disparaging remarks about his 5-year-old daughter who’ll hopefully get him to pay for all the psychotherapy sessions she’s going to require when she’s a teenager and very possibly throughout her whole adult life.
The 43-year-old toned down the obscenities last year when he made his sitcom debut on the FX channel. CK purists were horrified, but the 13-episode Louie still managed to be very, very funny.
“I’d like to name my kid a whole phrase, you know, something like ‘Ladies and Gentlemen’,” he mused in the first episode. “That’ll be a cool name for a kid. ‘This is my son, Ladies and Gentlemen’... Then when he gets out of hand I get to go, ‘Ladies and Gentlemen, please!’”
Check him out at [link]www.louisck.net[/link] and [link]www.youtube.com/louisck[/link].
Also tickling the CIN funnybone this week is 'The Other Side', Robert Popper and Peter Serafinowicz’s razor-sharp podcast about Radio Spiritworld, “the only station broadcasting from the afterlife to the living world.” Tune in at [link]www.robertpopper.com/about-robert-popper/the-other-side[/link].
Switching to the big screen, an early contender for Foreign Film of the Year is Benda Bilili, a gorgeous documentary about five paraplegic street musicians who’ve overcome all sorts of hardship and prejudice to become stadium-fillers in their native Congo.
CIN is also desperate to see Endhiran The Robot, the “Indian Terminator” which looks like serious amounts of fun. Get previews of both at [link]www.bendabilili.co.uk[/link] and [link]www.endhirantherobot.com[/link].
Which just leaves time for quick visits to [link]www.youtube.com/watch?v=WAtYlc1BsK8[/link] (£200,000 a week and Mario Balotelli can’t even put his bib on); [link]www.youtube.com/watch?v=zbiI3eenA9k&feature=related[/link] (U2 perform ‘Street Mission’ on a 1978 TV show); and [ink]www.geekologie.com/2011/02/the_monkey_waiter_now_with_mor.php[/link] (it’s hard to find good help these days).
