Rex Ryan to bring Gerry Hutch-inspired play The Monk to the Ambassador Theatre
Tickets go on sale Friday and can be found at the link below.
Actor, writer and director Rex Ryan is set to bring his Gerry Hutch-inspired play The Monk to the Ambassador Theatre, Dublin from February 16-21, 2026.
The one-man play centres around Hutch's trial at the special criminal court, as "Gerry bears witness to his lifetime of alleged crimes, triumphs and misdemeanours," according to a synopsis.
"In 5 minutes Hutch will either walk away a free man, or be convicted of Murder," it continues.
First presented at the Glass Mask Theatre in 2024, selling out its entire run, the play challenges the protagonist's own memory throughout the performance.
Hutch, the alleged head of the Hutch Gang, was the prime suspect for two of Ireland's biggest armed robberies in history, the 1987 robbery at Marino Mart and the Brinks robbery in 1995.
In April 2023, he was found not guilty of planning the murder of David Byrne, who was killed in 2016 as an alleged result of the Hutch-Kinahan gang feud.
Last year, Hutch ran as an independent candidate in the Dublin Central constituency.
Tickets for The Monk at the Ambassador Theatre go on sale Friday, November 21 and can be found here.
