A random photo of an egg becomes the most liked Instagram post of all time

Yes, you read that right. An old stock image of an egg has become the most liked post ever on Instagram. It overtakes Kyle Jenner’s shot of her new-born daughter, Stormi.

At the time of writing, the post has 29.1 million likes and its account has 3.2 million followers on the social networking site.

The account @world_record_egg went viral over the weekend after posting a simple image of an egg with the caption: “Let’s set a world record together and get the most liked post on Instagram. Beating the current world record held by Kylie Jenner (18 million)! We got this"

Despite being dethroned by the egg, Jenner seemed to be having fun with the account. She responded by posting a video of herself cracking an egg over a hot pavement with the message: "Take that little egg."

It has yet to be revealed just why the egg was posted or whether there is a deeper meaning to the photo.
