New short story anthology, featuring Louise O'Neill and Pat McCabe released in aid of Dublin Rape Crisis Centre
The Broken Spiral is an anthology of short stories written by Irish authors in aid of the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre.
Launched on November 15th, The Broken Spiral was edited by R.M. Clarke and includes contributions from authors including Louise O'Neill (Asking For It, Only Ever Yours), Pat McCabe (Breakfast on Pluto, The Butcher Boy), playwright and activist Rosaleen McDonagh (Mainstream) and Lisa Harding (Harvesting).
The name is based on the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre symbol, "which is emblematic of the winding, re-winding and often circuitous journey towards healing those who have experienced trauma face", while the book itself serves both as an important way of building greater understanding around sexual violence and a means of raising necessary funding for the centre.
Contributors to The Broken Spiral are Pat McCabe, Sinead Gleeson, Rosaleen McDonagh, Eoin Dolan Lane, Alvy Carragher, Geraldine Mills, Sam Blake, Mia Gallagher, Colin Barrett, Claire Hennessy, Louise O'Neill, Oisin Fagan, Fiona O'Rourke, June Caldwell, Roisin O'Donnell, James Martyn Joyce, RM Clarke, Lisa Harding, Alex Reece Abbott and Lillian Alford Patterson, with a foreword by Dublin Rape Crisis Centre CEO Noeline Blackwell.
