Katie Boyle - Mad Hatter Q&A: Dying words? "Feed my cats!"
As she prepares to bring her Roe v Wade Versus Katie tour to Dublin's Ambassador Theatre, comedian Katie Boyle answers our Mad Hatter questions...
Who would be the last person you would invite to your birthday party?
Conor McGregor. I can’t stand him for obvious reasons.
Who would be the first person you would invite to your birthday party?
After my boyfriend, Colin Farrell! I think he’s hilarious and when I watch interviews of him, I sometimes feel like the presenters miss his one-liners, while I’m cracking up at home.
Favourite saying?
‘Herding cats.’ I’ve two cats, so when I hear someone say that, I think of myself trying to get them into their carriers, while they cartoonishly run to opposite sides of my apartment and disappear into a different dimension.
Favourite record?
A tie between Welcome To the Pleasuredome by Frankie Goes To Hollywood and Lungs by Florence + The Machine.

Frankie Goes To Hollywood
Favourite book?
I read Private Lives Of Pippa Lee a couple of times in my teens, and it’s the only book I’ve read more than once!
Favourite film?
All Of Us Strangers. You literally can’t talk to me over pints without me talking in depth about how this is the best film ever made. Also In Bruges, The Guard, Waking Ned Devine, Kneecap, Aftersun…
Favourite actor / actress?
Comedic actors: Aisling Bea or Sharon Horgan. Ruth Negga, Eve Hewson and Charlie Murphy are fab too in any series I’ve seen them in. And for films, Saoirse Ronan!
Favourite musician?
Kneecap! I brought a bunch of friends from all over the world – who’d never heard Irish – to see them. They all had the best time and wanted to know Irish phrases after. They’re just amazing.

Most embarrassing moment of your life?
When people watch my stand-up in front of me. I have to leave the room.
Favourite food/drink/stimulant?
Burrito/tea/whiskey.
Favourite TV personality?
Graham Norton.
Favourite item of clothing?
My Air Max corduroy runners. They’re so comfy and I love the textures.
Favourite method of relaxation?
Watching TV and films with my cats on the couch with a cup of tea.
If you weren’t pursuing your present career, what other career might you have chosen?
Owning a coffee shop because I love hospitality – I just hate working for someone..
Biggest disappointment?
There’s the obvious ones, like friendship break-ups or a lazy ex. But honestly, nothing worse than a bad cup of tea.
Your concept of heaven?
Fun nights with family and friends. I don’t believe in an afterlife. I think it’s the little moments we get while alive.
Your concept of hell?
Times Square and Henry Street! Sorry, too many people squished into a small space walking all over the place in every direction.
What would be your dying words?
Feed my cats!
Greatest ambition?
To be able to tour with comedy anywhere and not worry about how many tickets have been sold.

Period of history you’d most like to have lived in and why?
None as a woman to be honest, or as an Irish person. Only would want to live now, and even now needs loads of work… but maybe 1916? Though I’d defo die early trying to be a rebel. I’d be clumsy and probably shoot myself by accident…
If you were told that the world was ending tomorrow morning, how would you react/what would you do?
Drink tea and play games with my boyfriend and family and give my cats loads of treats. I process feelings slowly, so I’d probably be dead before a reaction would set in.
Katie Boyle brings her Roe v Wade Versus Katie tour to Dublin’s Ambassador Theatre on November 8. Tickets are available here.
