International Festivals: Secret Solstice
We take a look at some of the best international festivals taking place this summer.
Date: June 21–23
Location: Reykjavik, Iceland
Major Artists: Black Eyed Peas, Robert Plant and the Sensational Shapeshifters, Martin Garrix, Rita Ora, Patti Smith, The Sugarhill Gang, Pussyriot, Morcheeba, Foreign Beggars
Located on a volcanic island just outside Reykjavik, Secret Solstice combines a celebration of Iceland’s natural beauty with a diverse line-up of classic and upcoming artists. Held in late June, the festival never goes without sunlight, even late into the night, making it a truly unique experience. And that’s before mentioning the raves inside glacier caves, or the performances inside ancient lava tunnels. Headlining this year are a varied cast of pop, rock, and EDM staples, with a massive host of DJs filling out the bottom half of the bill. Known for attracting a diverse crowd of young punters, the festival is not only a showcase of Iceland’s geographical splendour, but also a demonstration of the many cultural backgrounds from which its youth hail.
Don’t Miss: Drawing heavily from American indie-rock and jangle-pop, Boy Pablo offer a beautiful taste of summer.
