Imelda May to perform special one-off reading of Lady Gregory's poetry and letters
The occasion is part of an upcoming string of events celebrating the legendary Irish dramatist
Revered Irish singer Imelda May will perform a special reading of the poetry and letters of The Abbey Theatre’s co-founder Lady Gregory, set to take place at the Dublin venue on August 27.
This celebratory event centres the voice, poetry and personal letters of Gregory who, at the time of their publication, couldn’t put her name to her sonnets, for fear of provoking controversy.
May’s reading comes as part of the Abbey Theatre’s Gregory Project, which celebrates the legacy of the Irish dramatist and folklorist.

A month after the singer takes to the stage, Grania will make its Abbey debut for the Dublin Theatre Festival. Widely considered Lady Gregory’s masterpiece, the love story will be directed by the venue’s Artistic Director Caitríona McLaughlin.
Other recently announced Abbey Theatre projects include Enda Walsh and Anna Mullarkey’s multimedia production SAFE HOUSE (running from October 3 – November 9) and Afterwards, a play which explores the consequences of the Repeal the 8th movement in Ireland and beyond (September 6 - 14).
