Game of Thrones Leads Emmy Nominations
The hugely popular show hasn't aired since last summer
The 2018 Emmy nominations were announced today and Game of Thrones is sitting on the throne (a metaphorical one, rather than one made from iron).
The beloved show, which hasn't aired since last summer and isn't due to return until 2019, received a total of 22 nominations.
Not too far behind it were Westworld and Saturday Night Live, each racking up a total of 21 nominations. They were followed closely by The Handmaid's Tale, which received 20.
Game of Thrones, Westworld and The Handmaid's Tale will face off in several categories. These include:
Outstanding Drama
Lead Actress in a Drama: Elisabeth Moss (The Handmaid's Tale), Evan Rachel Wood (Westworld)
Supporting Actress in a Drama: Lena Heady (Game of Thrones), Thandie Newton (Westworld), Alexis Bledel, Ann Dowd and Yvonne Strahovski (The Handmaid's Tale)
Supporting Actor in a Drama: Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones), Joseph Fiennes The Handmaid’s Tale
Guest Actress in a Drama: Diane Rigg (Game of Thrones), Samira Wiley, Kelly Jenrette, Cherry Jones (The Handmaid's Tale)
Last year, The Handmaid's Tale won four of the above categories, with John Lithgow winning the Emmy for Supporting Actor in a Drama for his role in The Crown.
This year will mark the 70th Primetime Emmy Awards with the ceremony being held on 17 September.
