Green with energy
The Heineken Green Energy Festival takes place in The Munster Showgrounds in Cork and the Castlegar Sportsgrounds in Galway over the June Bank Holiday Weekend
They call them Bank Holidays, but the great thing is that it is not just bank staff that get the day off. This leaves most of us with the opportunity to enjoy the Heineken Green Energy Festivals over the June Bank Holiday Weekend. Yes folks, big blue tents are set to return to The Munster Showgrounds in Cork and the Castlegar Sportsgrounds in Galway as the festival takes place simultaneously in both cities over four days.
You can see a genuine mohican haircut in action when Ash start the ball rolling on June 1st in Galway. Supported by Muse, both then run off to play in Cork the next day. That’s rock n’ roll for you.
The openers in Cork on June 1st are Morcheeba. Fresh from having recorded their new album ‘Fragments Of Freedom’, they then do the rock n’ roll thing and scoot up to Galway to play on June 2nd.
Ocean Colour Scene and Relish play in Galway on the 3rd and Cork on the 4th. OCS are no strangers to the west of Ireland, it seems like they play there every day. And if they did they would probably still sell out every time. Relish have been described as the Irish Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, but they should be good anyway.
Having played in Cork on the 3rd, The Waterboys featuring Mike Scott and Steve Wickham close the festival in Galway on the 4th. Expect to hear the classics like ‘The Whole Of The Moon’ as well as stuff from the new album A Rock In The Weary Land.
Trevor Nelson will be gracing the Black Box in Galway with his presence on June 2nd, and the Savoy in Cork the following night. MJ Cole will be in the Savoy on the 2nd, and will make his way west in time to be at the Black Box on the 3rd. Confused, I hope not.
If you are a stranger to either Cork or Galway, don’t worry. You wont get lost as there is a free city-wide pub trail in both towns that should get you back on track, or at least pissed.
