Government announces €7.6M investment in Creative Climate Action Fund III
Record funding of €750,000 will be provided to 11 creative projects over the course of a four-year period, from 2026 to 2029.
The Government has announced the successful applicants of the Creative Climate Action Fund III (CCAF III).
Of the successful applicants, one project that will receive maximum funding is Dinnseanchas: The Agency of Place, led by the charity organisation Hometree. It places artists into residencies in rural upland and coastal communities across Donegal, Sligo, Galway, Clare and Kerry. The project explores climate change, biodiversity loss and challenges of the landscape.
The Messages, part of the Shared Island project, is led by the Mary Robinson Centre, whose mission is to nurture native Irish plants and use it as an educational resource that reimagines local food systems, supporting artists, scientists, growers and community groups.
Cork City Council received maximum funding for their project, Cultureways. The project is set to tackle behaviors in the city, encouraging people to rethink and reduce short car journeys. Artists will connect with communities to use creative practice in coming up with alternate traveling routes, backed by behavioural science.
The CCAF III will provide record funding of a maximum of €750,000 to 11 creative projects over the course of a four-year period, from 2026 to 2029, marking the single largest investment to date. This fund will include two cross-border projects under the Shared Island programme.
"This partnership between the Shared Island Initiative and the Creative Climate Action Fund facilitates engagement on a cross-border basis to help respond to and tackle this essential shared challenge," announced Taoiseach Micheál Martin, alongside Minister for Culture, Communications and Sport TD Patrick O'Donovan and Minister for Climate, Energy and the Environment TD Darragh O'Brien .
"I welcome the inclusion of these two significant projects which will harness the power of culture and creativity to bring people together and help build a better, sustainable, shared future."
