Caught in The Net; In Sharp Focus

We all know it’s a three-way tie between Liam Sweeney, Roger Woolman and Cathal Dawson as to who’s the best rock ‘n’ roll snapper on the planet, but what about fourth place?

After much research – which may to the untrained eye have looked like wasting an entire day our on iMac – Caught In The Net has decided that this accolade goes to former Rolling Stone staffer Annie Leibovitz who’s the subject of a new exhibition at The Hospital Gallery in London’s Covent Garden.
Running until May 9, American Music takes in everybody from R.L. Burnside and Bruce Springsteen to Mary J Blige and The White Stripes who, quite rightly, describe Leibovitz as “a genius”.
Talking about the knife thrower shot of Jack ‘n’ Meg, she says: “I don’t know what this picture means. The truth is, there’s nothing more to it than dada. And that’s who the White Stripes are. We actually had the target left over from a Cameron Diaz shoot for Vogue.”

CIN thought it was having its plonker pulled when former HP person Sheila Convery returned from Vanuatu, as you do, with word of a strange household appliance worshipping sect called John Frum. Further investigation revealed that, no, Ms. Convery hadn’t been overdoing the local hallucinogenic brew known as kava but had been told about the World War II pilot, name John Frum, who was the first white man ever to set foot on the far-flung archipelago island of Tanna. Shocked by his appearance, the loincloth-wearing locals assumed he was a god and started worshipping the bemused American.
“John Frum told his followers to look toward America for wealth that would come in ships,” explains Tom Numake, a former Tanna witchdoctor who abandoned black magic for Christianity 10 years ago. “John Frum came and went from our island many times in planes and ships, saying he was going off to fight some battle, but always promising to return. But after the war, he never came back.” Worshippers believe that Frum now dwells in the belly of a volcano and talk to him through sacred flowers which, let’s face it, is no stranger than Catholicism.
