Carey Mulligan and Marcus Mumford raise $7.65 million for Children in Conflict

Carey Mulligan and Marcus Mumford raised $7.65 million (€6.8 million) on Sunday night in Los Angeles for Children in Conflict, a nonprofit organisation dedicated to protecting, educating and providing mental health support to children living in war zones and high-conflict areas.

The couple hosted their annual Wassail benefit at the El Rey Theatre, marking the first time the evening was held in Los Angeles. Mulligan and Mumford previously held the evening in London and New York.

Comedian Jack Whitehall emceed the night, which featured musical performances from Mumford & Sons, Brandi Carlile, Sierra Ferrell and Jensen McRae. Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer took part in the program with readings.

The guest list also included Daisy Edgar-Jones, Emma Watson, Courtney Cox, Kristen Bell and more.

Mulligan and Mumford are both founding global ambassadors of Children in Conflict. Each year they travel to war zones to see the charity's programmes at work.

"This is more money than we have ever raised before," Mulligan said after announcing the total funds raised. In 2024, the benefit raised over $2.2 million (€1.95 million).

"This money will help us bring support to over one million children in war zones," Mumford added. "We are so grateful to the LA community."

The CEO of Children in Conflict, Rob Williams, also chimed in.

"Our work and the children we work with seem to have captured the hearts of a new community of support in Los Angeles," he said. "We are so delighted to have the chance to reach more children than ever before.

"We will be running more events in Los Angeles next year and would love more people to get involved."
