Beloved Dublin bookstore Chapters to close after nearly forty years of business
"A sincere thank you to you all for your custom over 40 years in business," Chapters Bookstore tweeted after their announcement.
One of Dublin's favourite bookstores' Chapters announced on their Twitter today that they will close after nearly forty years of operating in the city centre.
Known for selling both new and secondhand books to customers, they said they would shut up shop in early 2022.
"After 40 years in business Chapters Bookstore will close its doors early in 2022," they tweeted.
"To extend our sincere gratitude to customers old and new, we are hosting a huge clearance sale. 2 for 1 on ALL items, excl Bestsellers. Buy 2 items, get cheapest free. In-store only.
A sincere thank you to you all for your custom over 40 years in business. We are truly grateful, William Kinsella, owner, and all the staff at Chapters."
Chapters originally opened on Wicklow St in 1983 before moving to Abbey St and now Parnell St.
The news was met with dismay by many purveyors of the shop, sharing their sadness online at the closure of "a modern Dublin institution".
This is really sad news. Chapters is a modern Dublin institution and great for keeping niche stuff that wouldn’t be available anywhere else. Will be popping into the great glass palace on Parnell St soon https://t.co/uBO0AniBrx
