Almost 15 drones downed over Kyiv last night
Almost 15 drones were downed over Kyiv last night in the latest air attack on the Ukrainian capital.
In the latest air attack on Kyiv, Ukrainian officials announced almost 15 drones were shot down over the city last night. Head of the Kyiv city military administration, Sergiy Popko reported no damage or casualties occurred.
The attack is the second in as many days and the latest in the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine after Russian forces invaded last February.
What was first expected to be a quick victory by Russia has turned into a sustained military campaign involving official forces, guerrilla fighters, private military contractors and massive amounts of international aid.
A previous drone attack on July 12 targeted a Ukrainian grain silo near the border with Romania, significantly damaging key infrastructure.
Last November, the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant was shelled with both sides blaming the other. The plant, which is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe located just 500 kilometres from the site of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster, was under Russian control at the time.
At the height of its advance in March 2022, Russia controlled several key cities including Kharkiv, Kherson and Mariupol and was rapidly closing in on the Capital of Kyiv.
Following an intense and widespread counter offensive in November 2022, the Ukrainian military pushed Russian forces out of the North, leaving the Russia presence confined to Southeast of the Dnipro River.
