U2 news: Bono-heavy '46664: The Event' releases + photo retrospective

The CDs and DVD from the Nelson Mandela AIDS awareness show will be heavily Irish in their content; Plus more news from the U2 camp with a photo retrospective tipped for publication

The Hot Press Newsdesk, 03 Mar 2004

Irish acts feature prominently on the 3-CDs and DVD that have been culled from the all star Nelson Mandela AIDS awareness show that took place last November in Cape Town.

Named after Mandela's Robben Island prison number, the 46664: The Event highlights include:

'Redemption Song' – Bob Geldof

'American Prayer' – Bono/The Edge/Beyoncé/Dave Stewart

'46664 (Long Walk To Freedom)' – Bono/The Edge/Dave Stewart/Abel Wright/Youssou N'Dour

'Breathless' – The Corrs

'Toss The Feathers' – The Corrs/Roger Taylor

'Is This The World We Created' – Andrea Corr/Brian May

'The Great Song Of Indifference' – Bob Geldof

'(What's So Funny 'bout) Peace, Love & Understanding' – Bob Geldof

'Everybody's Got To Learn Sometime' – Zucchero/Queen/Sharon Corr

'One'/'Unchained Melody' – Bono/The Edge

'Amandla' – Queen/Bono/Anastacia/Dave Stewart/Andrews Bonsu

Both 46664: The Event packages are released on April 5.

In other U2-related news, a well-placed publishing source says that the band are readying a full-colour photo retrospective, In The Name Of Love: U2 By U2, to coincide with the release of their 10th album and the 25th anniversary of their first long-player, Boy.

"It's meant to show the band not just in the context of a rock band, but as figures in world culture," the source tells VH1. "If a publisher can make the book work as an event or tie into a loyal fanbase, there's some gold in them thar hills."

The author of the tome looks like being Jim Henke, the former Rolling Stone man who's Chief Curator at the Rock 'N' Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, and put together the In The Name Of Love: Two Decades Of U2 exhibition which ran there last year.

Meanwhile, another U2 associate, Anton Corbijn, was honoured last week with the 2004 KLM Paul Huf Award. Arguably the greatest living rock 'n' roll photographer, the Dutch man's shots have featured extensively on U2 album and singles covers.
