The Minutes win Bright New Sounds
Five acts competed in last night's live final, but Dublin pop rock threepiece The Minutes emerged victorious in Vodafone's Bright New Sounds competition.
Five top acts played last night's Vodafone Bright New Sounds final: Chaplin, Star Turtle, 79Cortinaz, Superfreakz and The Minutes.
Each band had three songs to impress, and a packed venue of potential fans just waiting to be won over.
After a short deliberation, the judges voted and The Minutes were named as winners. They'll now get the chance to record their 'Ukraine' single in Windwill Lane Studios, and have it released on Universal's NoCarbon label.
The label will then set their well-oiled marketing, promotion and distribution chains in motion – including a professional photo shoot, as well as coverage in Hot Press – before releasing the track next month.
Speaking to our reporter last night, The Minutes' lead singer Mark was optimistic about the success this prize could bring:
“It’s a great opportunity to up our profile cos we were planning to put out an EP this year,” he said. “We could put out the single and follow it up with an EP later on in the year.”
