If you’re going to name an album after the year it was released in, then you have to be sure that it captures the prevailing zeitgiest. In contrast to his pop album under his own name and big dance floor tunes as 'Audion', Matthew Dear’s False project sounds understated, like it was rushed out without much ceremony. Certainly, the first part of 2007 is a glitchy, mid-tempo affair, but by the time the dark bass of ‘Disease/George Washington’ flows through the speakers, Dear has notched up the pace and the tweaked acid of ‘Act Like Children/Excalibur’ and the air raid sirens of recent single ‘Fed On Youth’ deliver a deadly dance floor payload that typifies the seedy underbelly of after hours partying.
