We Are Part Of Us And So Are You
One of the UK's most underrated electronic producers, Max Brennan returns with his second album for Sublime.
One of the UK's most underrated electronic producers, Max Brennan returns with his second album for Sublime.
It looks like Brennan has spent his spare time reading up on alien conspiracies, while ingesting copious amounts of 70s funk. So, while the album is peppered with extra terrestrial references, Brennan's musical sensibilities are directed primarily at the dancefloor.
‘Biggest Story’ and ‘Strange Sightings’ are real cosmic groovers, hinged on slap basslines and large helpings of intergalactic funk. Never content to follow one sound, We Are also takes in jazzy, tripped out breaks (‘Choose To Expect’ and ‘Blessed Are They’), discordant, brooding electro-techno on the Closer Encounters passages and deep, tribal and even commercial, upfront takes on house with ‘Leave This Body’ and ‘My Friends Are From Outer Space’ respectively.
Whatever your opinion about Brennan's conspiracy theories, there's no denying he cloaks it in some of the funkiest wig outs this side of P-Funk.
