Flashes Of Genius
The Frames got the mother of all live reviews while supporting The New Pornographers on tour in the US last week. Read on...
In a coup that echoes the Cranberries' early success - when they utterly outshone headline band Suede on their first major US tour - The Frames look to be benefiting in spades from their swing through the States with Candian band The New Pornographers.
Headlining at Radio Radio in Indiana on February 11th, The New Pornographers, reported a local reviewer from the Indianapolis Star, supplied "all the ear candy a listener could crave [in a] hit-or-miss performance... It was opening act the Frames, though, that provided memorable flashes of rock 'n' roll genius."
The writer then went on to appreciatively note, among other things, "woozy countermelodies from... electric fiddle" and frontman Glen Hansard's "lightness of spirit".
Then he went on to say:
"After the fact, the group's performance raises new doubts about overseas bands that are hyped as the next big thing.
"The Frames, equally adept at the tender and torrential, could mop the floor with Coldplay, Starsailor and probably even the current edition of Travis.
"A music fan looking to invest major adoration in a new artist could do a lot worse than the Frames."
