Detroit Calling
it’s Burden’s surprisingly open-minded selection that makes this stand out
Serious Detroit Dude Lawrence Burden laughs in the face of purists’ criticism and delivers a storming mix that rightly claims to be a snapshot of where techno’s really at in 2001.
There’s 28 (28!) tracks crammed into the 68-minute mix, held together by some true-to-life quickfire mixing. But it’s Burden’s surprisingly open-minded selection that makes this stand out - rather than opting for a 430 West megamix, Burden includes lashings of Detroit gear (including ‘Jaguar’, ‘Daystar’ and ‘Blackwater’) and a healthy dose of European gear by Cari Lekebusch, G Flame and Mr G, and Vistor’s ‘Model One’ from Dublin’s D1 Records, which closes the mix. Essential for the fans, an unexpected delight for the more open-minded.
