Watch: Trailer for wrongful imprisonment drama 'Crown Heights'
The film won the audience award at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival .
Over a decade ago, This American Life, the wildly popular non-fiction podcast from the US, covered the story of Colin Warner. Warner was 18 in 1980 when he was arrested, charged and convicted of a murder he did not commit. His close friend Carl King then devoted his life to proving Colin's innocence.
Now writer/director Matt Ruskin has made a film about the injustice, and by all accounts it's quite accomplished, with him winning big at Sundance earlier this year. The trailer came out today and it looks set to be an emotional powerhouse of a work.
Starring Lakeith Stanfield (Short Term 12, Atlanta, Get Out) as Warner, the film looks to be both a moving personal story and a savage indictment of the socio-economic inequalities that can lead to unjust incarceration.
