Starring Jennifer Lawrence, the film looks like a typically disquieting psychological horror.
The iconic auteur Darren Aronofsky last film was 2014's biblical epic Noah, but his upcoming Mother ! looks like a return to the kind of disturbing, mind-bending material he made his name with.
Jennifer Lawrence and Javier Bardem play two halves of a contented couple whose relationship and lives get thrown into turmoil when a slew of uninvited guests start arriving. The trailer is abstract but undeniably unnerving for something in which we don't see a lot of blood. The every increasing heartbeat has echoes of an Edgar Allen Poe story.
The likes of Michelle Pfiffer, Domhnall Gleeson, Kristen Wiig and Ed Harris are also starring in a cast list that reportedly reaches approximately 80 in number. Watch the trailer below:
