Mel Gibson and Sean Penn Shoot Scenes in Dublin
Dublin doubles for Oxford in new film about Sir James Murray - early editor of Oxford English Dictionary.
If you saw a Mel Gibson or Sean Penn look-a-like while roaming the Dublin streets this September, you may have spotted the real McCoy.
The actors are to star in The Professor and the Madman, a film adaptation of the 1998 novel The Surgeon of Crowthorne by Simon Winchester. Gibson is to portray the dictionary editor, Sir James Murray, alongside Penn, who depicts the eccentric Doctor WC Minor who made more than 10,000 contributions to the dictionary while locked away in an insane asylum for murder.
The film has received funding for the 8 week shoot from the Irish Film Board. A release date is yet to be announced.
