Our new cover stars argue: "Because of how U2 operate, the package always overshadows the music at first."
Gracing our cover this coming fortnight, Delorentos are gearing up to release their first major label album. While you could say that they're going the traditional route with their worldwide deal with Universal, Ronan Yourell tells Stuart Clark that it is "the most untraditional thing could have done" because of their DIY approach up until now.
Another Irish band not sticking to tradition have, of course, been U2. The Delorentos lads give their opinion on how Songs Of Innocence ended up on half a billion people's iTunes.
"Because of how U2 operate, the package always overshadows the music at first; perhaps more than ever this time, with the Apple connection," says Yourell. "You need the dust to settle to be able to come back and reflect on it."
"Exactly," agrees Kieran McGuinness. "It's actually a really clever idea. Jay Z did something very similar and didn't get shit for it because in the eyes of the world he's a much cooler artist. We need to strip away all the bullshit and remember that music is music."
Elsewhere in the cover piece, the Dublin quartet discuss working with Hozier producer Rob Kirwan on Night Becomes Light, how they almost lost faith in Ireland and moved to Spain permanently, and much more.
It's all inside the new Hot Press, on sale Thursday, October 2
