Cork's Palko storm into King Kong semi-finals
Palko beat off stiff competition last night to win the first heat of the King Kong Club band competition at The Village, Dublin, and are now through to the semi-finals on Thursday July 29.
The winners of the semi-final go to London for two gigs and a Balcony TV London appearance. The overall winner goes to New York City for four days to appear on Balcony TV in NYC and play two gigs, so this a major opportunity for the Cork lads.
Following the successful release of their debut album Dreamers earlier this year, Palko kicked off their summer tour with an explosive performance at Sunday Roast in Mercantile last Sunday and are lining up other gigs across the land. Reviewing Dreamers in Hot Press, Jackie Hayden said, "'Promised Me This' comes laden with fulsome guitars, but it broadens out with a more widescreen swagger and some catchy hooks too. The snappy 'You’re Wrong' sweeps in with a more frantic approach, driven by punky guitars and get-up-your-nose vocals. For 'Take Me Down' they get all funky with their wah-wah washes and chainsaw-lite guitar chords….they are well-worth checking out”.
