Karan Casey at The Everyman Theatre (Photos)

Wednesday night at The Everyman Theatre in Cork saw the preview of renowned Irish folk singer/songwriter Karan Casey 'The Women, We Will Rise'. Presented by the Cork-based artist and The Everyman in association with the Cork Folk Festival, the show was billed as progressing the female narrative in the folk tradition. It places women centre stage and shares through song the experiences of gallant women from Ireland’s past, whilst singing into being a vision for the women of the future. But it does much more than this! The show beautifully highlights the lives of influential women from Ireland's past including Kathleen Clarke, Madge Daly and Agnes Ryan. This is accomplished in a collective way through narration, music (including 6 new songs), visualisation with photos displayed on the background depicting the main characters and minimalist stage lighting that enhances the whole production.

Karan is joined on stage throughout by her great friends Niamh Dunne and Seán Óg Graham. The show officially opened last night and again on Saturday the 30th.
