Neil Young condemns Amazon, offers his catalog to Greenland for free
“My music will never be available on Amazon, as long as it is owned by Bezos," says Neil Young.
Neil Young has said he will follow through with his pledge to remove his music from Amazon.
The singer-songwriter first announced he would be removing his music from the platform in October due to Amazon founder Jeff Bezo's ties to US President Donald Trump. In a recent post to the Neil Young Archives, the singer confirmed this decision, additionally stating he would be offering his discography to the people of Greenland for free following Trump's recent threats of occupation.
“Amazon is owned by Jeff Bezos, a billionaire backer of the president,” he wrote. “The president’s international policies and his support of ICE make it impossible for me to ignore his actions. If you feel as I do, I strongly recommend that you do not use Amazon."
"There are many ways to avoid Amazon and support individual Americans and American companies that supply the same products. I have done that with my music and people who are looking can find it in a lot of other places.
"I hope my music and music films will ease some of the unwarranted stress and threats you are experiencing from our unpopular and hopefully temporary government,” he wrote. “It is my sincere wish for you to be able to enjoy all of my music in your beautiful Greenland home, in its highest quality."
"This is an offer of peace and love. All the music I made during the last 62 years is yours to hear. You can renew for free was long as you’re in Greenland. We do hope other organizations will follow in the spirit of our example.”
"In another post to his newsletter yesterday, the singer suggested fans seek out independent, local journalism over news conglomerates such as FOX , the New York Times and CNN. He stated: "Americans need some truth, not media obsessed with satisfying everybody".
In 2022, Young removed his music from Spotify, who he said allowed podcaster Joe Rogan to spread vaccine misinformation. Young's music returned to the platform in 2024.
The singer has also spoken out against Meta over AI safety risks, and has ceased all use of all Meta-owned platforms.
Neil Young and The Chrome Hearts will be performing at the Virgin Media Park in Cork on July 1, with Elvis Costello acting as support. Tickets are available here.
