Neil Young announces that he will stop supporting Verizon and Apple
"I follow the list of companies backing the Fascist Trump Regime," said Neil Young. "One by one, I am cancelling all contact with each of them."
Neil Young has announced that he will stop supporting Verizon and Apple over their supposed support of Donald Trump's "regime".
Just days after sharing that he was following through with his pledge to remove his music from Amazon and offering his discography to the people of Greenland for free following Trump's threats of occupation, the singer-songwriter has announced that he is committed to changing his phone service provider and not upgrading his computer.
"I noticed it says Verizon on it," wrote Young on Neil Young Archives. "I can't use a Verizon phone. Verizon is a supporter of Trump with big $! What can I do? I'm checking with our office to see if I can get a T-Mobile Flip phone. T-Mobile is not a supporter of the Trump Fascist regime.
"I have to stop and re-assess. No more upgrades! That feeds Apple, Apple supports ‘The Regime’.
"Tim Cook, the CEO, falling over backwards to support the regime! He was at the ‘Melania’ premiere at the White House just the other night, kissing ass."
In his statement, the Canadian-American singer also mentions the two victims of a fatal shooting by a federal officer in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
"One by one, I am cancelling all contact with each of them," said Young. "This is not easy, but the alternative - me giving money I got from you to the Regime that backed the illegal killings of two Americans.
"I'm trying to not support the companies that support the regime with huge donations, just to cover their own asses, while people are being shot on the streets of America, not just Minnesota, America!"
Young is not the only artist to speak against what has happened in Minneapolis, as Bruce Springsteen has recently released an anti-ICE song, ‘Streets of Minneapolis’.
Last year, Young decided to delete all of his social media accounts on Meta-owned platforms because of his concerns over Meta's AI safety risks.
Neil Young and The Chrome Hearts will be performing at the Virgin Media Park, Cork, on July 1. Tickets are available here.
