Gerry "the Monk" Hutch confirms his run in next Dublin Central by-election
At the press event last night, he told the Irish Mirror he was "never in a crime gang".
Gerry "the Monk" Hutch has confirmed he will run in the next Dublin Central by-election.
In the last general election, the alleged crime lord missed out on the last seat in the constituency by a hair, losing to the Labour Party's Marie Sherlock. Hutch has spent the last few months hinting at his intentions to run again.
The election will find candidates wishing to fill the seat once held by Minister for Finance Paschal Donohoe, who resigned last year to take on a role at the World Bank.
Hutch is currently out on bail for a connection to alleged money-laundering before a Lanzarote court, though Spanish officials have said this will not effect his ability to stand election.
At the press event last night, he told the Irish Mirror he was "never in a crime gang", though he is most-known for being the alleged leader of the Hutch Gang, a criminal organisation involved with a series of robberies, murders and drug-trafficking schemes across Ireland.
