Westlife and Snow Patrol Head Meteors Live Line-Up
Nominations are also announced
Westlife, Snow Patrol, The Script, Florence and the Machine, Paulo Nutini, The Coronas and Pixie Lott have been confirmed to perform at the Meteor Ireland Music Awards 2010, which will take place at the RDS Dublin, on Friday February 19.
The awards, which celebrate their tenth year in 2010, were officially launched today with the announcement of this year’s nominees. The show will be presented for the second year running by Amanda Byram and will be aired on Sunday 21st February 2010, on RTE 2 at 9pm.
U2 and Christy Moore head the list of nominees, with three nominations each. U2 appear in the shortlists of five for Best Band, Best Album (No Line On The Horizon) and Best Live Performance, while Christy is nominated as Best Irish Male, Best Irish Live Performance and Best Folk/Trad artist.
Music fans decide the winners in nine categories:
- Best National D.J.
- Best Regional D.J.
- Best Irish Band
- Best Irish Male
- Best Irish Female
- Best Irish Pop Act
- Best Irish Album
- Best Irish Live Performance
- Most Promising New Artist for 2010
Public voting goes live today. A further nine awards are decided by votes cast by representatives of the Irish music industry, with a total of eighteen awards to be presented on the night.
Speaking at the launch, Meteor's Head of Brand and Advertising, Meadhbh Quinn, said: "This is a hugely exciting time for us as we celebrate the tenth year of the Meteor Ireland Music Awards. Throughout the last ten years The Meteors have been synonymous with music in Ireland, celebrating the best of both Irish and international music, as well as recognising up and coming Irish talent.
“This year is no different with the launch of the Most Promising New Artist 2010 category, giving unsigned artists the chance to make a break into the music industry," she added. "Meteor has had a strong association with music over the last few years and we have recently launched the Meteor Music Store, which offers access to over 1.4 million tracks, from major international artists to home grown Irish talent, giving music fans the chance to download their favourite songs – anytime, anywhere"
A limited number of tickets priced €40 (including booking fee) go on sale tomorrow Friday 8th January at 9am from Ticketmaster and usual outlets nationwide. This is strictly an over 16 year's event.
