Watch: CMAT performs 'EURO-COUNTRY' and discusses her album on US talk show The Daily Show
The Dunboyne singer also recently released the live EP EURO-COUNTRY (Live at St Anne's) on August 27 to celebrate the one year anniversary of EURO-COUNTRY.
CMAT appeared on the US talk show The Daily Show last night, performing the title track of EURO-COUNTRY and discussing her songwriting.
Jordan Klepper hosted the show, which served to promote her third studio album.
Of her music, she said: "Funeral humour is a really big part of my songwriting process. You know when you're at a funeral and it's absolutely the worst thing ever and then somebody farts and everyone laughs. I kind of think that's what songwriting is."
She also spoke specifically about 'EURO-COUNTRY', describing how the song is about the economic crash that happened in Ireland in 2008.
"I've been thinking a lot about how politicians make decisions and we don't really feel the repercussions of those decisions until about 20 years later," she said. "My generation of Irish people have all more or less emigrated because there's no work or no housing for them ... I really just wanted to have a song about how much I love Ireland."
Before that, she touched on Ed Sheeran's recent controversy surrounding Macklemore being removed from his LOOP tour.
"My hot take is that I actually feel bad for the guy because I don't think he knew what he was getting himself into," she said. "I think he was given really bad advice by someone with nefarious issues."
This marked her third American talk show appearance following her performance of 'When A Good Man Cries' on The Late Late Show with Stephen Colbert in February and her appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! in September of last year, when she performed 'Take A Sexy Picture Of Me'.
Other guests of the week included Wall Street Journal foreign correspondent Evan Gershkovich, author Marlon James and, tonight, filmmaker John Wilson.
In past shows, musicians the likes of Rage Against the Machine's Tom Morello, 'Weird Al' Yankovic, Wu-Tang Clan leader RZA and more have performed.
Earlier this month, CMAT was the musical guest for Saturday Night Live UK - making her the first Irish musical guest on the show.
The Dunboyne singer also recently released the live EP EURO-COUNTRY (Live at St Anne's) on August 27 to celebrate the one year anniversary of EURO-COUNTRY - which won best album at the Ivor Novello Awards.
Following the release of the record in 2025, CMAT has toured Ireland, the UK, North America, Europe and Australia. She also headlined and performed a number of summer festival slots this year, including a standout show on the Main Stage at Electric Picnic in August.
