WATCH: Alana Haim co-stars in trailer for Paul Thomas Anderson's new film Licorice Pizza
The cast is led by Cooper Hoffman, son of the late actor and frequent Anderson collaborator Philip Seymour Hoffman.
Details about Paul Thomas Anderson’s new film Licorice Pizza has been kept heavily under wraps until yesterday, when the scintillating trailer starring Alana Haim was released.
The coming-of-age drama follows a teenage actor named Gary Valentine during the 1970s in the San Fernando Valley. Gary befriends Jon Peters, the real-life Hollywood film producer whose credits included Barbra Streisand’s A Star Is Born.
The cast is led by Cooper Hoffman, son of the late actor and frequent Anderson collaborator Philip Seymour Hoffman, alongside Alana Haim, the youngest of the HAIM sisters.
The film’s trailer reportedly aired before random screenings in Los Angeles, but now we all get to see it for ourselves. The clip is soundtracked by David Bowie’s 'Life on Mars?'
Up until now, Haim’s only non-music-video acting experience has been in the Documentary Now! TV series and in the Netflix Lonely Island short The Unauthorized Bash Brothers Experience.
Anderson has directed a whole host of HAIM videos, most recently last year’s 'Man From The Magazine' clip.
Licorice Pizza has a cast full of heavy hitters, including Tom Waits, who seems to be playing a movie director. The trailer also features Bradley Cooper, Sean Penn, Benny Safdie, and Paul Thomas Anderson's wife, Maya Rudolph.
Up until now, Cooper Hoffman has never been in a movie. The cast reportedly also includes Ben Stiller, John C. Reilly and Christopher Walken but none of their names are in the trailer or on the poster.
