U2 split from long-standing label
U2 have announced that after 26 years they're to part with Island Records, though they're now moving to another subsidiary of Universal.
Recent reports suggest that the Irish foursome were less than happy with the effort the label were making, despite selling 150 million records.
The band reportedly became increasingly frustrated with their "hands-off" approach. Matters came to a head when no representative from Island came to a recent recording session, which "put their noses out of joint" according to the UK's Indepdendent On Sunday.
They've now announced that they're to follow former general manager of Island Jason Iley to Mercury. Like Island, the label is a subsidiary of Universal Music, one of the four major label groups.
The first release on Mercury will be a charity single next month.
