Expectations are high tonight as Turn return to the spotlight to launch their new mini-album, In Position. Supported most graciously by Label and Paddy Casey, Turn finally take to the stage to be greeted by a seething mass of fans.
I’m not kidding, the place is jammed and plenty of elbow action is needed to secure a good vantage point. The suits look blacker and sharper than ever and it’s quite clear that these boys plan to do some serious damage to your hearing. Permanent damage.
But it’s well worth it, as Turn bejewel their set with gems from In Position. ‘Heart Attack’ starts sweetly and then cascades into a dirge of screaming ascending guitars and vicious bass rhythms; ‘Catch On You’ boasts a dark, tantalising melody and harmonies that sink through the mind and into the heart; and then there’s the superb title track ‘In Position’.
Legendary Turn anthems ‘Beretta’, ‘Too Much Make-up’ and ‘Anti-social’ rear their ferociously angsty heads and it’s impossible to resist. Still raucous, still loud – still the best damn live band in this part of the world by some distance.
