Track of the Day: Æ MAK, ‘Low Down’

Songwriter, producer and pop savant Æ MAK has returned with the final installation of her EP ABC Side Baby, out now in its completion with the addition of her brand new track ‘Low Down’.

“These songs move through the magic and playfulness of sparklin’ new love into the deep depths of heartbreak; finding strength and a sense of self again at the lowest of lows,” the singer explained. “I’d been listening non stop to Dijon and ML Buch, so the energy in the rhythm and production is definitely influenced by them.”

Co-produced by Æ MAK and Kevin Corcoran, ‘Low Down’ is the perfect finale for a trio of heartbreak anthems. Born of the freedom that comes from achieving your lowest of lows, the new song sees Æ MAK revel in her emotions as she slowly regains her power.

“‘Low Down’ is about hitting rock bottom after a break-up, almost basking in it, and finding your power again,” MAK said. “I made it in between chain-smoking out the window and lying on my best pal’s green corduroy couch all summer; until I finally felt some strength creep back in.

“I wanted the production to have a bit of a Dijon or Frank Ocean feeling mixed with some hyper pop moments,” she added.

A follow-up to her previous releases ‘Let’s Do It’ and ‘Til The End Of The Show’, the new track serves as the final chapter in MAK’s healing journey towards independence and self-reliance, completing the recent string of heart-on-sleeve dance ballads.
