‘Sand and Sails’ is the second single by Side 4 Collective, a group of musicians brought together by renowned drummer Dave Hingerty (Kila/The Frames/Paul Brady/Josh Ritter/Bronagh Gallagher). The concept behind the project is for Dave’s drumming to form a basis around which invited guests build a finished track.

The new release features the vocal talents of Farah Elle - whose eclectic influences include Arabian echoes from her Libyan heritage - and is the second track to be taken from forthcoming album We Burn Bright due in October. The first single ‘The Flood’ featured Paul Noonan of BellX1 and Adam Marcello, most notably recognised for his work as musical director and drummer for multi-Grammy nominated artist Katy Perry. The song garnered extensive airplay and was dubbed ‘a tasty brew incorporating 80s AOR, alt pop, indie and gospel influences’ by our good selves at Hot Press.

Farah Elle's We Burn Bright will also feature collaborations and contributions from Josh Ritter, Cathal Coughlan (Microdisney/Fatima Mansions), Adrian Crowley, Robbie Malone (David Gray), Carol Keogh, Joe Chester and many more guests.

Here’s how Farah describes the Side 4 Collective experience: "For me, this project was creatively exciting because I got to approach my song-writing from a different perspective. Basing the ideas solely on a drum pattern and deciding to use no other musical instruments other than my voice, I learned a lot about my own voice and began to try incorporate different sounds with it – helping me paint my picture with a new approach. Allowing the rhythm to be the guide, a different part of my brain started to open up and I found that I was no longer confined to notes or progressions, giving me the freedom to explore my ideas around the beats instead. I found myself gaining an appreciation for the wild nature in the amount of notes that drum patterns have, which I probably wouldn’t have noticed so much before."
