Tipple of the Fortnight: St. Patrick's Distillery 100% Potato Vodka
The craft distilling revolution has come to the People's Republic!
Our friends Keogh’s Crisps aren’t the only ones putting the not so humble Irish potato to impeccable use with around 250 spuds going into each bottle of this super-smooth 40% vodka from St. Patrick’s, a Cork distillery that gets bonus points for having former heavy metal band manager Barry Fitzgerald as its Brand Manager.
We’ve been enjoying it Soviet-style straight from the freezer, but it’s also great in cocktails - stpatricksdistillery.ie has some handy recipes - and as an ingredient in one of our favourite Italian dishes, Penne alla Vodka.
There’s a sweetness and almost creamy mouthfeel that you don’t always get with other vodkas,
We’ve also road tested their Irish Whiskey, Classic Juniper Potato Gin, Extra Dry Potato Gin, Elderflower Potato Gin and Sloe & Honey Potato Gin and can report that they’re all top notch.
In case you’re wondering, the rowdy longhairs that Baz tried to control during the ‘80s were called Judgement. You can find a stack of their tunes on the excellent irish-metal.bandcamp.com
