Them's Belfast Gypsies among Record Store Day Black Friday releases
The 1967 album came after brothers Pat and Jackie McAuley left Them – the Belfast group which famously launched Van Morrison's career – and formed a new band under the same name.
The list of this year's exclusive and limited edition Record Store Day Black Friday releases has been revealed – with Them's Belfast Gypsies among the highlights.
Considered a "stone-cold classic" of the garage punk/R&B scene of the era, Belfast Gypsies received relatively little attention at the time of its original release in 1967, which was limited to Sweden and the Netherlands.
The album – recorded over four sessions in May and June 1966 in London and Copenhagen – came after brothers Pat and Jackie McAuley left Them (the Belfast group which famously launched Van Morrison's career) and formed a new band under the same name.
However, a court case reportedly meant the McAuley group could only use the name Them outside the UK, although they were allowed to call themselves 'The Other Them'.
American producer Kim Fowley, who later managed the band The Runaways, christened them the Belfast Gypsies, although the band themselves never used the name.
The limited edition Record Store Day Black Friday edition will be released on translucent red vinyl, and will be available from participating record shops across Ireland and the UK from 8am on Friday, November 27. You can find the list of shops taking part here.
This year’s Record Store Day Black Friday list also includes Florence + The Machine, with alternate chamber versions of four tracks from Everybody Scream; Sombr, with the first-ever vinyl release of his In Another Life EP; and special releases from Noah Kahan, Jessie Ware, KATSEYE and Carly Rae Jepsen.
