The Undertones announce Dublin headliner
The Undertones have confirmed a December date at The Village and responded to rumours of John Peel-related tributes
Christmas comes early for Undertones fans on December 3 when the band play a Dublin headliner in The Village.
Still a potent live force, the Derry quintet will be running through such gems as 'Jimmy Jimmy', 'My Perfect Cousin', 'Wednesday Week' and the song that started it all for them, 'Teenage Kicks'.
Despite it being quoted as 14/1 to top the Christmas charts, the band have ruled out the re-release of '…Kicks' as a tribute to the late John Peel.
"It would be totally inappropriate to release it as a single and is not something the band would even consider," is the word from their manager Andy Ferguson who also says that reports of them headlining a new 'John Peel Stage' at Glastonbury are premature.
"To be honest," he continues, "the band's thoughts are for John's family and they are not ready to consider these sort of things so soon. Yes, one of the band did, in an emotional response to the announcement that there would be a John Peel Stage, indicate that he would like to play. However Glastonbury have not contacted or put any proposal to us. We don't know what the John Peel Stage will be all about. The Undertones have never been invited to play at Glastonbury before but if they are then all the band will be involved in considering any proposal."
