The Cure lead tributes to bandmate Perry Bamonte
They describe him as "quiet, intense, intuitive, constant and hugely creative."
The Cure have paid tribute to Perry Bamonte, their multi-instrumentalist bandmate who has died aged just 65. An official statement reads:
"IT IS WITH ENORMOUS SADNESS THAT WE CONFIRM THE DEATH OF OUR GREAT FRIEND AND BANDMATE PERRY BAMONTE WHO PASSED AWAY AFTER A SHORT ILLNESS AT HOME OVER CHRISTMAS.
"QUIET, INTENSE, INTUITIVE, CONSTANT AND HUGELY CREATIVE, ‘TEDDY’ WAS A WARM HEARTED AND VITAL PART OF THE CURE STORY.
"LOOKING AFTER THE BAND FROM 1984 THROUGH 1989, HE BECAME A FULL TIME MEMBER OF THE CURE IN 1990, PLAYING GUITAR, SIX STRING BASS AND KEYBOARDS ON THE WISH, WILD MOOD SWINGS, BLOODFLOWERS, ACOUSTIC HITS AND THE CURE ALBUMS, AS WELL AS PERFORMING MORE THAN 400 SHOWS OVER 14 YEARS.
"HE REJOINED THE CURE IN 2022, PLAYING ANOTHER 90 SHOWS, SOME OF THE BEST IN THE BAND’S HISTORY, CULMINATING WITH THE SHOW OF A LOST WORLD CONCERT IN LONDON ON NOVEMBER 1st 2024.
"OUR THOUGHTS AND CONDOLENCES ARE WITH ALL HIS FAMILY. HE WILL BE VERY GREATLY MISSED."
Lol Tolhurst explains how Bamonte rose up through the Cure ranks.
"Perry joined us all as my keyboard tech initially then after working as guitar tech went on to play in the band," he says. "A quiet unassuming man he will be missed by many. Cindy and I send our love to his family."
The Cure recently announced a June 26, 2026 show in Marlay Park, Dublin but, alas, Bamonte won't now be with them.
Here are some of the other tributes to Perry that have been pouring in from fans and fellow musicians. It's clear that he was much loved and respected throughout the rock 'n' roll world.
From Wayne Hussey:
I am saddened beyond words to hear of the passing of Perry Bamonte. Perry was one of the sweetest, kindest, gentlest people I have met in this business of music. He will be missed terribly. pic.twitter.com/L7uWlZ4TtP— Chain of Flowers (@CraigatCoF) December 26, 2025
From Stuart Braithwaite:
So sad to hear about Perry Bamonte leaving us. He was a lovely, kind soul who always made everyone feel welcome.
