HOT ON the heels of the American Beauty OST comes another genre-crossing soundtrack, this one taken from a new seventies retro-flick, Summer of Sam.

Familiar disco fare including Chic's 'Everybody Dance', The Emotions' 'Best of My Love' and Thelma Houston's 'Don't Leave Me This Way' rank alongside more eclectic grooves such as Roy Ayers infectious funk fusion on 'Running Away', Peter Brown's deliciously syncopated 'Dance With Me' and Marvin Gaye's well crafted disco cash-in 'Got To Give It Up'.

Not quitting fitting in with any of the above is The Who's brilliant 'Baba O'Riley' (from their classic Who's Next album) presented here in all its unedited glory. Also worth hearing again, 'Fooled Around And Fell In Love' is a quintessential seventies rock ballad.

Of less interest is Grace Jones in her pre-Sly & Robbie incarnation crooning on the seven minute plus 'La Vie En Rose', Abba's ubiquitous 'Dancing Queen' and Machine's August Darnell-penned disco hit 'There But For The Grace Of God', a popular gay anthem at the time, all of which wear less well than the otherwise top notch drawer selection here
