Subject: Detroit Volume 2
Rolando and Stacey Pullen are often considered Detroit’s best young DJs, but DJ Bone beat both spinners, winning Outstanding Electronic DJ at the Detroit Music Awards. If there were any lingering doubts as to Bone’s abilities, then this CD should dispel them all.
Drawing on his hometown’s electronic heritage, Bone cuts, chops and blends nearly thirty tracks within the space of seventy odd minutes. Understanding the importance of timeless music, he’s included loads of classic Motor City moments – ‘Final Frontier’, ‘Icon’ and ‘Firekeeper’ are all present and correct – alongside more recent global techno developments, including Garnier’s deeply soulful ‘Man With The Red Face’ and contributions from Funk D’Void, Deetron and Access 58. It’s not exactly mainstream stuff or the kind of CD you’ll bung on as subtle background music, but you’ll be hard pushed to find a better collection of Detroit techno music past, present and future anywhere else.
