Stunner5G - On Our Radar Q&A: "There’s a lot of crazy music on the way that I’m bursting to get out"

What initially drew you to music?

Growing up, my older brother was mad into G-Unit and 50 Cent. There was a lot of hip hop being played in the gaff and my brother was making beats, so that was a huge influence. Having friends that were older, making tunes, writing tunes, spitting freestyles here and there. Growing up and spending the whole day watching music videos on the TV. I was just always drawn to it and always around it.

How do you find working with friends?

Everything is made with friends. I’m very blessed to have friends that are such talented producers. Everyone I work with is my mate. Just working with friends and being able to build something, I’m very blessed.

Is Stunner5G an entirely different project for you?

I wanted to keep this new artist project and the old Luka [Palm] stuff separate. I wanted this Stunner5G stuff being looked at as a new artist. I feel like a new artist and the work I’ve put in the past couple years, I’ve crafted a new sound. It’s the music I always wanted to make and the music that is the most me.

How has being Swedish-Irish shaped your artistic identity?

I was born in Stockholm and moved to Dublin as a kid. Just growing up in Dublin is a big influence – the city, the people, how town looks. I’d still listen to a lot of Swedish music. I don’t know how the inspiration gets in there, but it definitely does contribute and shape my sound.

Can you tell us if you have anything big planned for the future?

I have a lot of exciting collaborations on the way, working with the likes of Karma Kid. I’ve got a song on the way with a Swedish band which I’m buzzed about. I was excited to be in the studio with someone from the same city as me and to make something different – not just be collaborating with what’s easiest. There’s a lot of crazy music on the way that I’m bursting to get out.
