The Strokes confirm new album, share 'At The Door'
The New Abnormal is out April 10.
They've been hinting at it since New Year's Eve, but now it's been officially confirmed -- the Strokes are releasing a new album.
Called The New Abnormal, the record comes out on April 10. Julian Casablancas casually mentioned the release date at a Bernie Sanders rally yesterday and the band posted a video on Twitter of the album cover, leading to days of speculation. Fans have been waiting for a new Strokes album since 2013's Comedown Machine. The band also released a trio of singles as part of their Future Present Past EP in 2016, but have remained mostly silent for those seven years.
'At the Door,' which was teased yesterday at the Sanders rally, is a synth heavy track. It's a direction the band have hinted at before, but they've never gone as electro as they do here. It's a drastic departure from their massively influential 2001 debut Is This It?, which arguably shaped the post-punk landscape of the decade.
The band are off to a hectic start in 2020. They announced a slew of last-minute European gigs earlier this month, including one in Belfast on February 24.
