Stevie Wonder, the Obamas and Paul McCartney share tribute to Martin Luther King Jr.
Following the 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr’s assassination, American singer-songwriter Stevie Wonder shared a video ‘The Dream Still Lives’, a modern-day version of the civil right leader’s “I have a dream” speech, widely regarded as the most famous speech of all time.
The speech, delivered at Alabama State Capital building in front of a crowd of 25,000 marchers from Selma to Montgomery on March 25 1965, has become synonymous with an aspirational idea of equality and peace.
In the video shared by Wonder, who even set up a Twitter account for the occasion, over 70 celebrities come together to honour Dr King by sharing their modern-day wishes for society.
Many big names appear, including Barack and Michelle Obama, James Corden, Paul McCartney, Common (who won an Oscar for best song for Glory in 2015, which depicted the march from Selma to Montgomery) and many others besides.
Wonder shared the video at 19.05 US Central Time, which is the exact time Dr King was assassinated on April 4 1968.
