Longtime producer, Steve Lillywhite is confident that new RTE series, The Hit can live up to its title...
"I think it's a good idea for a show. These other TV shows, there's a little bit of a tiredness from them."
The show will see hopefuls showcase their songs to two established music stars with hope that they will pick their song.
"The Hit isn't focusing on the singers, though, it's focusing on the songwriters," Lillywhite tells HP's Olaf Tyaransen, "a different twist on the concept."
The series is a new take on the formats we've seen in The Voice and The X Factor.
While the music is important, Lillywhite also recognises that the story behind those who appear on the show is what attracts the audience.

"The music is very important, but it's the human story as well that makes for a good TV show."
