Scott Weiland RIP
The Stone Temple Pilots & Velvet Revolver man has died while touring in the US
The shock news this morning is that Scott Weiland has died whilst on tour in the States. He was 48.
An official statement reads: “Scott Weiland, best known as the lead singer for Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver, passed away in his sleep while on a tour stop in Bloomington, Minnesota, with his band The Wildabouts. At this time we ask that the privacy of Scott’s family be respected.”
The tributes have been flooding in with Judd Apatow messaging: “I saw Scott Weiland perform many times and those were some of my favorite concerts of all time. My thoughts are with his family and friends.”
“Extremely saddened to have read Scott Weiland passed,” writes Aerosmith’s Joe Perry. “Such a gifted performer. My thoughts are with your loved ones, friends & fans.”
“Very sad to hear about Scott Weiland,” adds MTV’s John Norris. “I know his ride was a wild one at times but he was always super cool and gracious with me. RIP brother.”
“We opened for Stone Temple Pilots in 2000,” proffers Wheatus’ Brendan B. Brown. “I watched them side of stage and Scott Weiland destroyed me, he was the real thing. Seeing him changed me forever.”
“Scott Weiland was a great guy, super talented,” is Billy Idol’s take. “I played on shows with STP and Velvet Revolver and he owned the stage!”
“Sad to hear about Scott Weiland passing. He was a once of a kind epic force onstage. thoughts are with his family,” proffered Juliette Lewis while Ryan Adams said sweetly, “Universe, please take care of him.”
“A troubled soul, some great music,” reflected Tom Dunne, sentiments echoed by by Tom Morello who writes: “May you be at peace and thank you for your music, Scott.”
The father of two children, Noah and Lucy, he had with his ex-wife Mary Forsberg, Weiland sounded decidedly out of sorts during what transpired to be his final interview with Sirius XM’s The Todd Shapiro Show.
Weiland, who played some cracking gigs in recent-ish times with Velvet Revolver, had a long and well-documented history of heroin abuse.
